When it comes to a catch-up with a gal pal, there’s nothing better than an afternoon of gossip over wine and cheese. Thankfully the Cru Club is the latest place on the cheese block (sorry!) and the perfect place to enjoy just that.

Situated on the trendy Ormeau Road above the even trendier Brew Bot, this new wine bar is run by French natives Juliette (one of the only wine sommeliers in NI) and her partner Olivier. Although they are effortlessly cool, they don’t make you feel like you need a beard or man bun to go there – you’ll just need a love of wine and chic Parisian style.

Having a successful launch a month ago today, the future is looking bright for this plucky pair as they embark on their new venture which includes an extensive range of wine, cheese to compliment it, breads, ham and homemade relishes. I know Ox Cave has a similar offering but there is something about the relaxed environment of Cru Club which I can’t help but love.

With wines from Portugal, France, South Africa and Italy there is something for even fussy drinkers like me and oh don’t get me started on how delicious the cheese it. The Comté 24 months is something else and when you know you would be able to eat it, whole, from the block you know you’re onto a winner.

If you’re going just be mindful of the times -Wednesday-Friday from 5pm and weekends from 2pm. Good news is that there are even wine tastings some weekends, which offer a selection of 4 wines and a mixed board of food for £34 a couple.

All you need to do now is find an excuse to work your way down the menu and after a few glasses of wine you’ll be surprised at how good your French is! 🙂
