I love May. Not only does it have one, but two bank holidays and even better, the weather boffins tells us that the sun will be shining for this one!

With this in mind, it got me thinking about my top 5 reasons to love a bank holiday weekend:

  • You’re off work so naturally feel happier!
  • You won’t have ‘the fear’ that probably comes on a usual Sunday night.
  • It’s time to get the BBQ out and get cooking – the more interesting the better. I’ll be trying a pineapple soaked in rum with ice-cream for a proper grown-up dessert.
  • The big home stores always have a Bank Holiday offer – so no excuse from your other half not to finish the painting/garden/DIY jobs.
  • The excitement that you only have a four day week is way too much! However, Tuesday is the new Monday, but don’t let it ruin your buzz 🙂

If this has got you in the party spirit, there’s an event in Belfast’s Filthy Quarter this Sunday that will help the bank holiday go with a bang!

Bushmills Irish Whiskey has partnered with Derry based chef, Kevin Pyke of Pyke ’N’ Pommes as part of its #AnswerTheCall series which links up local artists, entrepreneurs, to inspire others to fulfil their true calling.

Kevin Pyke is best known for his now infamous Pyke ‘N’ Pommes street food kitchen, located in a battered steel shipping container, which is quickly becoming a tourist destination – so says Lonely Planet, so it must be true!

Authentic street food served Kevin’s way means no front door, no table service and not a predictable creation in sight! Well, except fiery fare and fervid fun!

Sounds exciting! Well Black Bush inspired street food paired with specially-created Black Bush serves sounds like the perfect Sunday to me…. Fire extinguisher not included 🙂
