With spring just round the corner, it’s the perfect time to start thinking about bringing new life into your home. If you are anything like me and are more likely to have red nails than green fingers, help is at hand from family run florist Memento.

Situated on Belfast’s Ormeau Road this is my favourite florist and botanical store that stocks a seasonal range of fresh flowers and foliage, creating bespoke bouquets and floral creations for all life’s occasions. It is Belfast’s leading indoor plant store, boasting a wide variety of plants from around the world, complemented by its wide range of pottery, terrariums and botanical accessories.

Not content with having these strings to its bow, it also runs regular workshops in its South Belfast studio and other city centre venues. I was invited along to get my hands dirty at its open Terrarium workshop in boutique city centre hotel Bullitt.

Not knowing what to expect, and frankly not having much confidence in my ability, I was one of 8 keen botanists eager to create an indoor garden and hopefully something we could keep alive!

Thankfully Gary who was delivering the workshop provided everything for the task in hand. This included cacti & sundries, plant succulents, gloves, mini spades, a range of bright sparkly stones, coloured gravel and even a very fancy glass jar and box to transport our plants home safely. Working step-by-step and learning a bit along the way, the activity proved very therapeutic and an enjoyable way to spend a few hours on a Sunday afternoon.

Hosting creative workshops is something Memento has got down to a tee. The team even runs them for private events, hen and birthday events. If you fancy getting your creative juices flowing, Memento has workshops this month and next including a Kokedama Workshop, Open Terrarium Workshop and a very special Mother’s Day floral workshop in Bullitt.

With many of us not having a large enough back or front garden to grow something Insta-worthy these workshops offer the perfect solution. They are good value for money, enjoyable and you feel a certain sense of achievement when you create your masterpiece. And if all else fails you can still pick up some of these colourful beauties (pictured below) from the Memento store, although you’ll have to have some serious creative license to pass them off as your own!
